C.D. #3: Wahmies Wetbag Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}
>> 12/09/2009

Cloth diapering can seem like a rather daunting task when out in public but there is no need to worry when you have the proper wet bag! We were using left-over disposables whenever we would venture out in public because I was too nervous about leaks and smells. Wahmies sent us the regular size wet bag to test out and get over our fears of cloth diapering outside the comfort of our home.
FEATURES:
Wahmies makes fun and funk-tional wet bags in varying sizes and colors! With a zipper closure, smells and leaks are contained inside the bag. The bag is constructed with a cute outside layer and an inner layer of waterproof PUL. A small square of fabric is located on the regular and all-day size wet bags to place a small drop of your favorite tea tree oil or essential oils for extra 'smell-proof'. In addition, Wahmies sells a one-size diaper, microfiber inserts, diaper pail liners, and cloth wipes. SIZES:
1. Small Size (approx. 9'' x 9''): perfect for individual diapers or wipes. Don't cloth diaper...this bag would make a great ice pack (boo-boo bag), bag for your nursing pads, or cosmetics in your purse.
2. Regular Size (approx. 13'' x 15''): will hold up to 6-8 diapers. Also great for toiletries while traveling or swimwear.
3. All-Day Size (approx. 16'' x 20''): great for all day events or traveling. Included is a webbed handle for easy carrying. Don't cloth...great for laundry or swimwear while traveling!
WASHING CARE:
Throw your Wahmies Wet Bag in the washing machine with your other soiled and wet diapers. Either tumble dry low or hang dry.
WHAT DO I THINK?:
We put the Wahmies Regular Size Wet Bag to the test by spending a good portion of the day away from home. Not only was this our first time using cloth in public, this was our first experience with a wet bag.
I thought that the Wahmies did a great job at keeping the smells and leaks where they belonged. I was worried that the smell would follow us around and get onto other things in our diaper bag but it never did. In addition, the outside of the Wahmies Wet Bag was not damp or wet! When we arrived home, I dumped the contents of the Wahmies Wet Bag and the bag into our diaper pail for our next washing. The wet bag looked squeaky clean when I pulled it out of the wash.
BUY IT: Wahmies Wet Bags can be purchased from a variety of retailers here.
WIN IT: One lucky reader will win a Regular Size Wahmies Wet Bag in the ABC print, a $15.50 value. Remember...this could be used for various things other than storing your wet and soiled cloth diapers.HOW TO ENTER: Visit Wahmies and let me know what your favorite product is. I don't think that CD'ing in public is any different than disposables, except that you have to take your 'used' with you, and even then a wetbag, or a plastic bag in a pinch, makes that okay as well. You just have to get over your fear, and when in doubt about your trip out, double stuff! jill dot shoemaker at gmail dot com
oh I need one of these bad! I also need a pail liner!

I don't cloth diaper when we're out and about. I don't want to have to carry around dirty diapers and possible forget and leave them in the diaper bag.

I am new to cloth diapering and I worry about the amount of things I will have to carry with me each time I want to go out. It seems like a lot. i mean the wetbag seems like a nice easy thing, but when I add everything together for me (being an over prepared momma most times) it seems to add up. I would love finding more ways to make thing easy and still cloth diaper when out of the house.

I don't cloth diaper yet (until our next baby is born), but I think I would worry about keeping the stink from seeping through the bag! =)

Cloth diapering in public is no more difficult than doing it at home. You just have to be organized and have everything you will need. On quick outings, I like to use a mini wetbag (just big enough for one diaper). I put a single clean diaper and a small bag of wet wipes inside. When the baby needs a new diaper, I have everything I need and can just put the dirty diaper in the bag.

I make cloth diapering in public easy by making sure I have everything I need for a diaper change altogether and ready in a wet bag, so I take the new diaper out and put the old diaper and used wipe in -- not much different from using a disposable!

Honestly...I don't think cloth is any harder than disposable. Especially in public. I just put the diaper into my wet bag and take it home. When I used disposable I did the same.Plus my baby doesn't stink like chemicals like he did before :)

The only thing that concerns me about cloth diapering in public is that you have to change them more frequently that an disposable. Other than that, I use regular wipes (not cloth) while out and about to make it easier.
